Synopsis

Parameter Radio aims to rethink how we can browse music with today’s AI-powered audio labels. Spotify internally uses labels such as energy and danceability for their recommendation engine. Parameter Radio allows users to browse music by directly manipulating these sliders. The target user is people who get easily distracted by having Spotify open. Parameter Radio offers a set-and-forget solution that allows for some tweaking when desired. The sliders slowly move by themselves, giving the device an autonomous feel. The personalization slider allows you to choose if you want to discover new music, or stay within familiar territory.

Reflection

After the Turrell Speaker’s exploration into aesthetics, Parameter Radio was made to explore different usage paradigms. This was the first time I ventured into this realm, and it would continue to play a big role throughout my master’s programme, in projects such as Dynamix and Social Translucence within Shared Music Listening
